Bose Sues Beats!

Bose Corporation has filed a legal complaint against Beats Electronics for allegedly infringing patents related to its noise-canceling headphones. “To protect its investments, Bose has sought patent protection, and owns many patents and patent applications. Because Bose invests heavily in research and development, and because Bose has built its reputation on producing superior products through innovative technology, Bose’s continued success depends in substantial part on its ability to establish, maintain, and protect its proprietary technology through enforcement of its patent rights,” said Bose in its complaint.

Bose claims that Beats is infringing upon 50 years of research and development of noise cancellation technology that is protected by 36 U.S. patents and applications.Bose said that it is asserting the following patents against Beats:
6,717,537 – “Method and apparatus for minimizing latency in digital signal processing systems”

8,054,992 – “High frequency compensating”

8,073,150 – “Dynamically configurable ANR signal processing topology”

8,345,888 – “Digital high frequency phase compensation”

Bose is asking the court for a declaration that Beats infringed the aforementioned patents, an injunction from “continued infringement,” an award for damages, an order that finds Beats’ infringement is willful and relief that the court deems as just. Bose filed the infringement complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware and is asking the U.S. International Trade Commission to investigate the matter.

How did I end up in the studio with
Dr Dre ON THE night his deal went public that he did with Apple 3.2 BILLION!!!! The BEATS HEADPHONES JUST CHANGED HIP HOP!!!!!

Apple to acquire beats electronics for $3.2 Billion

Apple is all set to acquire the entirety of Beats electronics for $3.2 Billion. According to a Financial Times report the deal will be confirmed as soon as next week. USA Today also reports that it’s sources have confirmed this. This deal would be the largest acquisition by Apple ever.

beatsexecs
Beats Electronics executives, President and COO Luke Wood and co-founders Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine.

The post by USA Today also pointed out the irony in the deal. Jimmy Iovine and producer-rapper Dr. Dre co-founded Beats Electronics seven years ago and came up with the idea for Beats by lamenting the decline in sound quality ushered in by Apple’s own iPod and the MP3 era.

The acquisition is the second in line for Beats as HTC bought half the company for $300 million and sold all it’s shares 9 months ago for $265 million. Now it’s Apple’s turn I guess.

The internet is filled with mixed reactions as to what the deal would mean and it seems like a reasonable mixture. Personally I feel this would be a shot of Apple moving into the serious business of high-end audio in their phones and also headphones that supplement this hardware. Hopefully they make these expensive “fashion accessories” into worthwhile quality sounding headphones.

Apple: ‘There are some things we want every company to copy’

With the hundreds of patent law suits going on Apple makes a pretty bold statement (maybe with Samsung in mind). The ad is focused on green energy to produce products for the market.

Here is how the ad reads.

There’s one area where we actually encourage others to imitate us. Because when everyone makes the environment a priority, we all benefits. We’d be more than happy to see every data centre fuelled by 100% renewable energy sources. And we eagerly await the day when every product is made without the harmful toxins we have removed from ours.

Of course we know we can continue to do better. We’ve set some pretty ambitious goals for reducing our impact on climate change, making our products with greener materials and conserving our planet’s limited resources. So the next time we come across a great idea that can help leave the world better than we found it, we look forward to sharing it.
